Best Little Country Fair in the West

Celebrated 90th Anniversary in 2006

It was in 1917 that the Turtleford Agricultural Society staged the first Agricultural Fair in Turtleford and so began a tradition that has continued for 92 consecutive years. Through the fair and various other activities the Agricultural Society has brought an educational and cultural enrichment to the larger community. In 2006 the Turtleford Agricultural Society recognized and honoured the longevity of service and the proud heritage that is ours, all of which has been possible because of the dedication and spirit of the many people who have contributed to its success over the years. In fact it was in 1998 that the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions awarded the Turtleford Fair the plaque for the "Best Local Fair in Canada" for communities of under 5000 population.

The year of 2008 will mark the 92nd annual fair in this community. Fair weekend is always the Saturday and Sunday of the long weekend in August. The programs are such that there is entertainment for the whole family. The parade on Saturday morning kicks off the weekend filled with numerous events, including the light horse show, exhibits, quilt show, 4H and beef show, cattle sorting, stock dog trials, The Kids Korner and our own BoBo the HoBo, the Petting Zoo, midway, bingo and both evenings the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association wagons take to the track. "Music Under the Big Top" is another popular event at the fair, featuring top notch entertainment in the big tent both days. Sunday features the "Fiddlers Jamboree". Both evenings the cooks serve up a delicious roast beef supper with all the trimmings.

Don't miss the "Best Little Country Fair in the West"

To mark the 90th anniversary of the Agricultural Society in the community we erected a "Tribute to Agriculture" in the down town area. Included in the greenspace are murals and items depicting agriculture in the area. This was designed to be a tribute to the pioneers who settled the area and who ultimately were responsible for the formation of the organization.
